Day 41: File management and Animation

Today I updated the animatic, for Sharron and to send to the potential musicians

here it is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUQanJbIc_Q

Leigh and I spent a little while cutting it down a tad

I also animated the shot where the corn flings into the window, spins around and flings back - I accidentally made an optical illusion out of the smear, though.
Does it rotate clock-ways or counter clock ways?

Day 40: Potential Music and Updating Animatic

big news!! My best friend is finding some musicians for our short!! We are one step closer to getting original music especially for Centeotl and his 'friends' - Bryn is excited!!!

I spent my day adding the sounds to the shots and maybe an animatic? I can't really remember

Day 39: Animation, Backgrounds and Voice Acting

Today was a very busy day!! I started with something simple - a slight edit on Cheyenne's background to use for the more zoomed up shot, which is now ready for Vinnie to animate.

I fully keyed and inbetweened three shots, today - 2 of which are dialogue shots.
the one in the top left hand corner shows Centeotl talking to Ares - Centeotl's animation is done for that shot - Vinnie is going to be working on Ares

At the end of the day, Kirsty and I got Craig in to do the voice recordings for Horrace's lines - and we managed to also get Nezha's lines done!! that means we have all the lines for every character - I just need to edit them, now.

I have also been trying to get in touch with multiple people, including my best friend, to do some original music for the short - no luck, so far.

Day 38: Holiday Update and Animatic

After a week off (sorta) I am refreshed and ready to animate!! During the holidays I mostly focussed on finishing personal projects, but I managed to fully inbetween 4 different shots - two of which have voices!!

Today I got all of the layouts and the shots that people managed to do in the holiday and created an updated animatic - it has all the recorded voices (we don't have Horrace's or Nezha's lines, yet)

Day 37: Animation and Audio Editing

I spent the morning at home, editing Centeotl's, Ares's and anubis's recorded lines - getting rid of the noise of the air conditioner in the background and cutting them up, ready to be placed into the animation.

The rest of the day was spent animating the explosion to fire pillar, that Ares causes from being enraged - which is pretty much done, clean up and all!! I just need to animate Ares, himself.

Day 36: Backgrounds, Voice Acting and Animation

I was quite busy, today!!

Spent the morning working on the background, from yesterday, which I apparently forgot to bring home - I just did some line art - nothing really special or anything. Still need to add those picnic tables.

Kirsty and I got another character's lines done and dusted!! Ares is now ready to talk - Also we decided on which voice to use for Anubis.

Also animated one of the shots - it's just about done, already - just a few touch up's on Horrace's 'head' turn

My goal is to finish all the shots I was assigned to as soon as possible, so I have more time to help the others. - hopefully even more time to add background characters!!

Day 35: Background Designs and Voice Callbacks

The entire group focussed on backgrounds, today - whether it is layouts, colours, roughs etc.

It's getting hard to actually get stuff done when you're helping everybody else, but backgrounds are not my area, so this is all I accomplished, today.

We also did callbacks for Anubis's voice - tonight, I'm going to edit the recordings we got - and see what the rest of my group thinks, tomorrow.

Day 34: Final Touches Before Animating

Today we cut up all of the layouts into individual shots, ready for animation. just waiting on one half of a layout, now

We also figured out a nice way to make the backgrounds work with the characters, more

The key element to drawing these characters is exaggeration - so, naturally, we should incorporate that into the backgrounds
Apart from the slight cartoony skew, I also made the line art coloured, instead of straight black (the background characters will most likely have the same coloured lines as the background)
also, the lines aren't entirely there - it's more hinting at it

Day 33: Pre Production Due Date

Tomorrow morning is when everything is due, and we were told to add and change a lot of stuff AFTER school had ended!!
It was all unnecessarily hectic, but Leigh and myself stayed back to get it all done - Kirsty wen't home, but scanned some stuff and is updating the film festival thing.

Our original plan was to do colour tests for the key backgrounds and use that to update the look frame, but in the end, we didn't get to do any of that - perhaps I can do that tomorrow.

I spent the morning helping Kelly with her layout - I just fixed up her layering system, tweeked some tweens and made a walk cycle for Centeotl

Day 32: Animation Test and.... Yet More Layouts...

Today, I started off doing an animation test to figure out an easy way to do Nezha's floating cloth animation.
I just used Leigh's layout as the base and animated it using shape tweens - the result ended up like this:

The ends of the ribbon could flap a bit, so it doesn't look so dead. I added some lip movements, so it the ribbon didn't take away from the main action - I'm going to have to slow it down or not do as much movement as this, but at least I know how to animate it.

In other news, I completed the layout for scene 5, and helped Kirsty with the layouts for scene 4.
We still have a lot of layouts to go, but we're planning on animating on Monday, regardless

Day 31: Recording and Layouts

Today I got my friend, Josh, to come by and do some recording - We got all of Centeotl's lines done - I will see what everybody thinks of them, tomorrow.

I also continued on the layouts I was working on, yesterday, but I am in a bit of a pickle...
The key background of the back of the school, where everybody goes for lunch time, is different than what I drew in the animatic - so I have to tweak some of the shots - but one needs to be replaced, completely.

This is the drawing I had in the animatic:

I need to changed the placement of the characters, so that Ares is on the left side of the screen.

(the arrow indicates where the lightning bolt comes from)

Here's some quick scribbled ideas:

I'll see what my group thinks, tomorrow.

Day 30: Warm Up Drawings and Layouts

I started the day off with some warm up sketches of the characters - I was focussing on doing a lot of really insane wild takes

I also started doing the layouts for the ending scene.

I need to get this Layout done as soon as possible, if we want to start animating. next week

Day 29: Finished The Layouts!!

After a somewhat productive Easter weekend (not the Deity Academy kind of productive, though) I am now back, and ready to work like crazy to get this project done - the break refreshed my from all the pitch pack and dialogue stuff, so now I can dedicate my time fully to this, without overworking myself.
Today I finished my layout, ready for Cheyenne to animate!!
Kirsty also got a lot of voice auditions for the characters and they turned out great - better than expected!! We just need to narrow down the choices.

Day 28: More Layouts

Using the background, Cheyenne made, as a model background, I finished most of the Layouts for the planet skit.

We're kind of killing 2 birds with one stone, by doing the key frames on the layouts - but it's causing us too waste too much time on these - a doubled edged sword

Here's a screenshot of the progress - all I need to do, now, is the shot of the Teacher's weird dark abyss world... It's very hard to explain my gags

Day 27: Layouts

Today I managed to help out on layouts, I'm working on scene 3, Leigh told me to make the characters more on model, which is fine - i'm also trying to make the backgrounds more on model, too.

I didn't get much done on that, because I was busy helping everybody else - Kirsty and I e-mailed some people for voice talents, Vinnie and I designed some neat characters (he's really gotten good at the art style!!), I helped the rest with flash problems and taught some flash techniques to people outside of my day

not my most productive day, but it was still insanely busy!!
